On a Personal Note
My Story – Belinda, Founder of Pathway Collective
I’m Belinda, a proud mum of four beautiful children, aged from 11 to 27 years old.
I grew up in a simple, loving home with two parents who are still together, and two siblings. We were a sports-focused family, committed and driven. From the outside, life looked good, but deep down, I always felt like something was missing. No matter how many friends I had or achievements I reached, I never truly felt like I belonged.
After leaving school in Grade 10, I moved straight into full-time work and left home young. I found a sense of belonging in the rave scene, which led me down a difficult path with methamphetamine addiction Spanning 15 years. What I thought was freedom became a cycle that ruled my life.
At 21, I fell pregnant with my first son. I married his father, but the relationship was short-lived. By the time my son was two, I was a single mum navigating addiction once again this time turning to alcohol as well as keeping the trusty Meth habit. Another relationship followed, one that involved domestic violence, and I fell pregnant with my second son.
That moment became the turning point. Raising two young boys on my own while battling addiction was incredibly tough. My youngest was seriously unwell spending months in hospital with developmental delays and severe reactions to vaccines. Through all of this, I was desperately searching for real support and understanding, instead I was faced with Judgement and Ridicule, not only from outsiders but family members as well.
Eventually, I found a loving partner who accepted me completely. He works away for long periods (often 80% of the year), so I deeply understand the challenges of solo parenting and the emotional load it carries. Together we’ve raised our four children as a blended family.
Our children have faced a wide range of challenges, including ADHD, ASD, Anorexia, CPTSD, Body Dysmorphia, a rare genetic condition (PCKS1), alcohol and drug addiction, mental health issues, psychosis, and suicide tendencies. We’ve been part of the NDIS since it began, and we know firsthand what lack of support looks and feels like. Carer burnout is very real, and I’ve lived it.
I’ve fought hard to be heard, to access the right support, and to create stability for my family. Those experiences shaped me deeply. They taught me resilience, compassion, and what it truly takes to keep moving forward.
Today, through Pathway Collective, I use everything I’ve learned the hard lessons, the wins, and the deep understanding of both participants and carers, to walk beside others on their journey.
